Multi-media artist
Meriel is a painter, embroiderer and mixed-media artist whose work involves a variety of techniques, predominately using textiles and stitch. For inspiration she looks to the natural world – plants rather than animals – landscapes and architecture, particularly church buildings and ruins.
Married to a Lancastrian, over the years Meriel has spent many holidays and weekends in the English Lake District. Her love for mountain scenery is obvious in the individually made greetings cards she produces for all occasions and in her embroidered panels and plaques.
Meriel likes to re-cycle materials and will incorporate pre-worn fabrics and old lace into much of her work. At times she also uses paint to enhance her needlework , thus confirming the multi-media nature of her repertoire.
